Overview

geoDataClient is a tool that combines digital elevation data with texture data, based on a given street address:

  1. Enter a U.S. address, click "Search";
  2. If the address could be resolved, a "quad" line is displayed and the "Proceed..." button is activated.
  3. Click "Proceed...": geoDataClient downloads the appropriate files and combines them.

The result files are:

nnnnnnnn are eight digit numbers.

The texture file is derived from the elevation and the TIGER texture, see " Elevation to Color".

Status

The status icon indicates if the request is still OK:

...AOK, no problems detected.
...Warning, spurious result detected (currently not used).
...Error, can't continue. Please retry.

Address

Enter the address. Be as precise as possible. For further information on how to formulate the address and about the precision achieved, refer to: http://geocoder.us

Geocode...

Click here to search for the specified address. If multiple addresses were found, select the desired one from the list and click "Geocode" again. If no address was found, enter another address or enter the coordinates directly through the "left" and "top" edit controls.

The "left" and "top" edit controls are the ones marked pink in the following extract of the main dialog:

Left

The edit control for the left (West) border of the quad to download is shown in pink in the following extract of the main dialog:

This control is either filled in automatically (enter an address, then click "Geocode"), or it can be used to enter an arbitrary coordinate without a reference to any address.

Right

The edit control for the right (East) border of the quad to download is shown in pink in the following extract of the main dialog:

This control is read-only. The difference to the left border (the quad width) is determined by the quad size of the "Settings" dialog.

Top

The edit control for the top (North) border of the quad to download is shown in pink in the following extract of the main dialog:

This control is either filled in automatically (enter an address, then click "Geocode"), or it can be used to enter an arbitrary coordinate without a reference to any address.

Bottom

The edit control for the bottom (South) border of the quad to download is shown in pink in the following extract of the main dialog:

This control is read-only. The difference to the top border (the quad height) is determined by the quad size of the "Settings" dialog.

Cancel

During a download request, you may click "Cancel". The request will be stopped at the next appropriate step.

Proceed...

Click here to begin the data download for the given address. This button is activated after one address was found. If multiple addresses were found, select the desired one from the list and click "Search" again. If no address was found, enter another address.

Progress Bar

Shows the file download progress. Currently active only for the SRTM ZIP elevation file becaus of its size (several MB).

Message List

Here the download progress is logged. The entire list may be copied to the clipboard via the "Copy Log..." button.

Copy Log...

To copy the message list content to the clipboard.

Help

This button opens the help file you are currently viewing.

Close

The "Close" button exits the program.
